New York City-based guitar savant Joel Harrison curates a collection of intergenerational collaborations from some of the city’s finest players on Don’t Forget Your Guitar, including Ben Monder, Wendy Eisenberg, David Gilmore, Bill Frisell, Cindy Cashdollar, to name a few.
Each song is a duet between refined and raw expression locked in conversation of string, strum, and top-tier technique, together etching an indelible mark on the collective, contemporary voice of the guitar. The players translate this voice through diverse dialects of the instrument: from jazz standard, experimental noise, to bluegrass and baritone Weisenborn lap steel.
Don’t Forget Your Guitar features the world’s foremost avantgarde slide player, a Beatles tune, one of Carla Bley’s most lovely compositions…a true spectrum of sound charting new and old legacies of the instrument.
